VCNL4030X01 Proximity & Ambient Light Sensors

Vishay VCNL4030X01 Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors integrate a proximity sensor (PS), ambient light sensor (ALS), and a high power IRED into one small package. The VCNL4030X01 uses a CMOS process incorporating photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog to digital converting circuits into a single chip. The 16-bit high-resolution ALS offers excellent sensing capabilities with sufficient selections, ideal for most applications whether a dark or high transparency lens design is required. The ALS and PS both provide a programmable interrupt with individual high and low thresholds allowing power savings on the microcontroller. The proximity sensor features smart persistence, which prevents the misjudgment of proximity sensing with a fast response time. The proximity sensor also offers an intelligent cancellation scheme eliminating crosstalk effectively.

Optical Sensors

Vishay Optical Sensor portfolio includes reflective, transmissive, and ambient light sensors. These feature either analog or digital output. They are used in consumer, computing, industrial, and automotive applications. Reflective and transmissive sensors are typically used to detect the presence of an object, and to determine its directional motion and speed. Ambient light sensors are used to measure the environment’s light level. Sensing the color of an object, a gesture of a hand, the heart rate of a person, or the rate of rainfall are all possible with Vishay optical components.

VCNL Proximity & Ambient Light Sensors

Vishay Semiconductors VCNL Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors are optical sensors, each combining an IR emitter, PIN photodiode, ambient light detector, signal processing IC, with 16-bit resolution, and an I2C interface. These features are integrated to greatly simplify window and sensor placement, PCB layout, and communication functions in a wide variety of consumer and industrial applications. The combination of the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and infrared emitter into a single component not only simplifies the design-in process by making a mechanical barrier unnecessary but also virtually eliminates optical cross-talk in smartphones.
